All plants entered for ribbon judging will be subject to all Rules and Regulations* of the South Bay Orchid Society Show Chair and judging committee as outlined below:

*Rules & Regulations:

  1. This show is open to all who wish to exhibit their orchids. Plants may be entered in one classification only. NO CROSS FILING. To be eligible for judging, a plant must have been grown by the exhibitor for 120 days prior to the show. Other plants may be entered for "exhibit only". Your plant must be in full bloom to be judged.
  2. Plant entries will be received no later than Friday evening(day before the show) ending at 5pm promptly. Plants brought in after the deadline will NOT be entered for judging and removed from consideration for judging. NO EXCEPTIONS. It's highly recommended you place your name and contact phone number on a label on the bottom of the pot or plant.
  3. Each exhibitor agrees upon making entries, to abide by the rules and regulations of the show as described in this document and as directed by the show personnel.
  4. The Show Committee staff reserves the right to refuse entry of any plant or flower thought to be not cleaned, diseased, infested, or not worthy of exhibiting.
  5. All plants and exhibits must remain on display throughout the show. No entries, plants, or ribbons may be removed until after 4:00pm on Sunday evening at the conclusion of the show.
  6. Entries not removed by 5:30pm Sunday night will be removed by the Show Committee. Any plants not claimed in ten days will be disposed of by the Committee. We will not be responsible for any plants that are lost or not claimed or removed.
  7. Every precaution and effort will be taken by the Show Committee to protect the property of the exhibitors. The South Bay Orchid Society, the Palos Verdes Art Center, and the Show Committee and staff, employees, will not be responsible for any theft, loss or damage to plants, materials, or personal property from either the vendors sales area, patio areas, parking lot, or the showroom floor.
  8. Staging and tables will be furnished by the Show Committee. All other materials must be furnished by the exhibitor or vendor and must be flameproof.
  9. Ensure that your exhibited plant be watered thoroughly prior to the entry into the exhibit.
  10. All rules and regulations described above will be strictly enforced in the interest of the show and fairness to all participants.
  11. Not all shows are judged by AOS or CSA.
  12. Please make sure your name and phone number is printed legibly on each plant registration slip.
  13. Failure to adhere to any of these rules and regulations will disqualify your plant from being entered and judged and possibly future participation in any event.

 

Judging:

  1. Judging will commence at 6pm pm Friday evening before the show. Please maintain a quiet environment during judging.Absolutely no one other than Judges and clerks and show staff are allowed in the showroom during judging.
  2. The competitive system of judging will be used for awards. First, Second, and Third place ribbons will be awarded in each group. If without merit, Judges will make no award. Trophies will be awarded for each class if warranted. No Judge may judge his/her own plant(s).
  3. All entries checked in by officials of the show will be entered for competitive judging unless otherwise stated on the entry form. All plants must be labeled legibly with the person's name entering the plant and the name or cross of the plant in order to be judged. Unlabeled plants or not identified plants without name or variety may be entered for "exhibit only" and will not be judged.
